October 2013 News from Mrs. Skipp’s Class

Dear Parents,

This has been an amazing start to the new school year! Your children are working hard to become a peaceful community. Listed below are some important topics and reminders.

Homework starts this Friday and will be due the following Friday. Homework consists of Math IXL, Community Service, and book reports. Students will be given a lesson on the book report homework next week. You will find the community service activity attached to this letter. If you are in 4th grade you are required to complete at least 30 minutes, 5th 45 minutes, and 6th 90 minutes of Math IXL time. Sometime students have time to work on Math IXL at school, but majority of the time will be spent at home.

Also, students might be bringing work from school home to work on because they need more time to finish their work. The book report link is http://www.northparkschools.org/resources/digital-backpack/download-info/skippt-book-reports-schedule-201314/. On this link you will find the month by month book report topics and projects.

Field Trips

Monday, September 30th, 2013: Frederick Meijer Gardens

6th Grade ONLY will be going to Frederick Meijer Gardens on  for some fitness and art activities. Please dress for outside.

Tuesday, October, 1st, 2013: Feeding America Apple Picking

All students will be going apple picking on Tuesday, October, 1st. We will be taking the school bus. We will be leaving at 1:00pm and returning at 3:45pm. All the apples we pick will be donated to our West Michigan Feeding America food bank. This is a way for students to help out in their local community. Also, please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. We will be outside the whole time.

MEAP Tests

MEAP will be starting in the month of October. Please make sure your children are well rested. Snacks will be provided during MEAP testing. However, if students wish to bring their own snack they may do so.

PCF (Parent Communication Folders)

These folders go back and forth everyday of school.  Students were given these folders the first week of school.  All notes from school should be placed in this folder.  There is a place in the classroom where students turn these folders in everyday. If students bring notes from home, it is their responsibility to unload their PCF. If you have any further questions about this please contact me.

Community Service for the week of September, 30th, 2013

As part of community service, your child should set the table for dinner every night this week. When his or her mom goes to sit down, your child should hold the chair out for help. Help to clear the table and clean the dishes after dinner. Please download and print the form below and have your child return it after this week:
